Studying physics (as a PhD student in particle physics and supersymmetry phenomenology) led me to ask a lot of questions, and the answers often happen to lead to new questions.

What is the most important object physicists manipulate everyday?

My answer with no hesitation is : the Lagrangian !

What is it? simply the object that contain everything one need to know about a given physical system.

This year, like every year, scientific labs all around France participate to a public event : "fĂȘte de la science" (link for french speaking visitors), or science fest in english, and do their best to make science look attractive to the average people (particulary young people). Like every year since I tarted my PhD, I will attend and talk about "the biggest machine on earth", the LHC.

Newtonian mechanics has marked the beginning of a new era for physics. Indeed the newtonian formulation of the gravitational force has allowed to prove the heliocentric theory developped by Copernicus and defended by Galileo. It is a very interesting story that deserve a full post (maybe one day, if I have enough time...).

As I did not introdce myself correctly, you (the reader) can't know that I work on supersymmetric extensions of the standard model. I'm actually preparing a series of posts about the topic, but it's too early to talk about it now!

So this is my first post here !

This summer I decided that blogging about physics might be a good idea, for many reasons. As a newbie, I signed-up at wordpress.com because I thought it could be the easiest way to start. But 4 posts later, I reconsidered my position and decided that scientificblogging.com is a better idea, simply because it is designed specifically for that. I'm going to reblog my full content here (4 posts, with one being a sort of introduction ! ) before going any further, starting with the first one.

Here is it :
