Science 2.0/Web 2.0/Internet Media Darling/Start-Up Scientific Blogging announced today that it has agreed to acquire Scienceblogs.com, a unit of Seed Media, LLC, New York, New York.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Following the acquisition, Scienceblogs.com will continue to operate independently to preserve its successful brand.
The acquisition combines one of the largest and fastest growing science communities with the scienceblogs.com expertise in organizing voters for Democratic PACs. The combined companies will focus on providing a better, more comprehensive experience for readers interested in the latest science developments and also what and who they should be protesting. It will also offer new opportunities for independent science writers to distribute their work to a vast new audience.
Funding for the acquisition was provided by Exxon-Mobil Corporation, Fox News Corporation, The Discovery Institute and Hillsdale College, who will each retain a seat on the new Board of Directors.

When the acquisition is complete, Scienceblogs.com will retain its distinct identity, strengthening and complementing ScientificBlogging.com's own fast-growing community, but will move operations to Kansas to be in closer touch with their core fan base. All scienceblogs.com employees will remain with the company unless they have under 300,000 pageviews per month, in which case they'll be sent back to Blogger.
