Say what? From the macroscopic-microscopic perspective, men and women have exactly the same chromosomes with one exception4, the sex chromosomes. Women have two X chromosomes, men have one X and one Y.
The Y, while important, is a runty little thing without much going on. So, generally, it is the men who are genetically deficient5. Furthermore, humans have five different classes of alchohol dehydrogenase. The one primarily used in the liver is a complex of three different subunits.
So, the only way women could "not have" alcohol dehydrogenase is if they didn't express them.
What the research actually says is this: young women do not express as much as young males, although this situation might reverse as people age. So smaller average body size and lower alcohol dehydrogenase activity means young women cannot process as much alcohol as young men, which is probably also Sex and the City's fault.
NOTES:
1: Only on the East coast. Here in fly over country, it airs 7-9AM, which is not exactly early for those of us who work. If you are not employed, enjoy at your leisure, and I'm sure your employment status is either the fault of the economy, affirmative action, not that your skill set is no longer suited to the needs of modern employers.
2: By learned I mean observed in horror. HORROR!
3: Having watched Sex in the City for the plot lines inasmuch as I have looked at Playboy for the articles, I seem to recall Sex in the City also making it cool to max out one's credit card in order to buy a pair of fabulous shoes, too. Can we also blame them for the credit crisis?
4: Which is what makes the genetics of the X-Men film franchise so difficult to sort out, but more on that later, too.
5: Usually addressed by breaking things and then attempting to fix them, which usually leads to them breaking again.
