UPDATE: Newest posting contains directions for AB negative blood donors outside the St. Louis area.
UPDATE: Donors are still needed to help this young boy.

There is a 14 month old child in St. Louis in desperate need of an AB negative blood donor.
A friend of mine has a 14 month old son who is in dire need of type AB negative blood.  He had a bone marrow transplant due to leukemia and has been in St. Louis Children's Hospital ever since, and has declined in health to the point that this request is literally a matter of life and death for this little boy.  ALL AREA HOSPITALS IN ST LOUIS have been checked and are out of supply of this rare blood type.

If you have this rare blood type, please contact me immediately either by email or facebook or twitter (@rugbyologist).

Josh, I'm just copying this here, and in my blog, to help boost awareness of your appeal via searchbots, feeds and such.

If he has AB Negitive blood he is a universal recp. he can have ANY blood I assumed. I do have this blood type, but I am in Oregon. God Speed for the recovery of Gods gift you have before you.

Peace and Love my friend

The rule of thumb we learn in school is too simple for a case like this.  When we are talking about just red blood cells, O neg is the universal donor and AB pos is the universal recipient.  People who are Rh negative can only receive Rh negative blood cells.  When it comes to plasma, AB is the universal donor and O is the universal recipient, as AB plasma does not have circulating anti-A or anti-B antibodies.  In a sensitive case like this one, an exact match is always preferable due to the health risks of any immune reaction.  Further complicating things, there are several other antigens that may need to be tested for, depending on the nature of the transfusion.

I would, again, encourage everyone, regardless of blood type to donate as often as possible.

Fortunately, it appears that enough donors have been identified.

Okay that makes sense. I am in no way an expert on this subject Josh, I just wanted say THANK GOD for people like you. Our world is need of more just like you . Glad to hear you found what he needed.
