If you would like to hear
Scientific Blogger Extraordinaire Jerry Coyne talk about his new book,
Why Evolution is True, instead of reading what an
erstwhile biochemist has to say about it, try the
Point of Inquiry podcast. Coyne says that a major motivation for this book was better educating evolution proponents (be they working scientists, students, etc.) about the evidence for evolution. Opposition to intelligent design, for example, requires, not only the refutation of IDs claims, but also a solid understanding of why Evolution is a superior description of our biological world. He also seems to agree
with moi on the point that Evolution is an observed phenomenon while Evolutionary Theory is the set of mechanisms explaining the phenomenon.
