I have been overwhelmed by the response to the call for AB negative blood donors to help this young boy:
A friend of mine has a 14 month old son who is in dire need of type AB negative blood.  He had a bone marrow transplant due to leukemia and has been in the hospital ever since, and has declined in health to the point that this request is literally a matter of life and death for this little boy.  ALL AREA HOSPITALS IN ST LOUIS have been checked and are out of supply of this rare blood type.

Their continues to be a need for St. Louis area AB negative donors.  If you meet these criteria:
1. Blood type AB negative
2. Wiling and able to donate
3. In the St. Louis, Missouri region

then contact me via e-mail, facebook, or twitter (D rugbyologist) with your information.

There have also been many AB negative people outside the St. Louis area asking how they can help.  So, I took that question to a doctor familiar with the case.  For AB negative blood donors outside the St. Louis area, do not worry about contacting anyone here in St. Louis:
The most efficient and effective way to help is to approach your local blood donation center, let them
know that you heard about this call for AB negative blood in St. Louis, that you would like to donate to help out with the shortage, and donate your blood. The blood banks will do the best and most efficient job of getting your blood to where it is needed.  If it is not needed in this case, your donation will help someone else.

And, please remember that donated blood is perishable and that blood banks are always in need of continuous resupply.  If you are able, regardless of your blood type, give as often as you can.

Thank you.

Trying to spread the word...

Does it need to be AB-, or will A- or B- work?

It must be AB- for this case, but I would encourage you to donate as often as possible.
