
As I mentioned yesterday, I was able to put together a proceedings paper on the "Search for the Standard Model Higgs boson with the CMS Detector" with the help of a collaborator, Eleni Petrakou. The article will be available on the ArXiv preprint server tomorrow, or even today by clicking on the picture below, which shows part of the first page. The article is quite simple to read and quite short. It should be readable by anybody, not just experts. I will be available to answer any question you may have on its contents, as always. Enjoy!

Well, I am sitting at a CMS meeting where they are showing an adjournament of precisely that analysis, right now. But I cannot say anything about it, since it is not approved material yet. I can tell you that Atlas estimated a significance of 3.6 standard deviations for a 120 GeV Higgs boson in the H->gamma gamma search with 200 inverse picobarns (next year's expected stat), but this assumed 14 TeV c.m. energy. The two detectors are not too different, but CMS has definitely the better electromagnetic calorimeter... You draw your own conclusions.

it would even be worthwhile to re-exclude a (more or less) SM-like Higgs below the LEP bound.
This could stop all the discussion about the "\sim 2 sigma effect at \approx 98 GeV". :-)
Probably the only viable channel would be gamma gamma. Unfortunately (but understandably)
this seems to have a very low priority in ATLAS and CMS.
