Thinking Affectively
About Travis Originally from a small town in rural Virginia, I earned a B.S. in Psychology from Virginia Tech and a Master's degree in Public Policy from the University of Maryland, College Park. Approximately two years ago, I said goodbye to harsh winters, hay fever and friends, and moved to mostly sunny California. I am currently a lowly Research Assistant at Stanford University investigating neurodevelopmental and psychophysiological responses to early life stress. After this gig, I hope to matriculate in a respectable Psychology PhD program with an emphasis on affective neuroscience.

In an effort to assuage mounting anxiety concerning the graduate school application process, it was suggested I further occupy my time with a hobby; join a softball team, volunteer, or maybe start a blog. Since I never really stop thinking about science and I enjoy writing, I volunteered to start a blog.

About this blog

I am interested in a variety of topics involving cognition and emotion. I will primarily report on affective cognitive neuroscience research in peer-reviewed journals and news stories, and occasionally scribble commentary. Any opinions expressed in this blog are mine alone and do not represent any institution or organization with which I am affiliated. Topics of interest include:

• Mechanisms of emotion generation and processing
• Automatic and cognitive emotion regulation
• Emotion regulation and social functioning
• Affective influences on other forms of cognition (decision-making)
• Related topics in Philosophy of Science

Robin: "Commentary."
Alvy Singer: Oh really? I had heard that "Commentary" and "Dissent" had merged and formed "Dysentery."
