Bio

Jane Poynter is one of eight people to live sealed inside the artificial world of Biosphere 2 for two years. The three-acre enclosed terrarium was built to replicate the Earth in miniature. Jane managed the design and operation of the farm, where she and the other crewmembers grew their food. They recycled everything – even drinking and breathing the same oxygen atoms over and over again.

Jane’s memoir, The Human Experiment:Two Years and Twenty Minutes Inside Biosphere 2, was published in September 2006.

Jane has had experiments in self-sustaining habitats flown on the International and Mir Space Stations, and the Shuttle. She has worked with the U.N. and the World Bank on the burgeoning carbon credit market, as well as projects to mitigate global climate change and to feed the hungry by greening coastal deserts in Africa and Central America.

Jane is President and co-founder of Paragon Space Development Corporation, an engineering firm dedicated to solving tough problems in extreme environments. She also heads Yogi & Co., a multi-media firm specializing in the environment.

Internships

We do offer unpaid internships in programming and science journalism to college students or recent graduates seeking to build up their portfolios.

Development interns will need to be proficient in PHP and CSS and provide samples of work done in a multi-user environment platform and sign a non-disclosure agreement.

Science journalists will need to provide samples from a university newspaper or professional publication and list which semester they want to work.
