Turks & Caicos Sporting Club at Ambergris Cay donated US$25,000 to the Turks & Caicos Islands' animal welfare organization, Turks & Caicos Society for the Prevention & Cruelty to Animals (TCSPCA).
The continuous development growth of the Turks & Caicos Islands has dramatically impacted the state of animal welfare. An increasing number of animals are being brought into the country through expanding tourism efforts, and as animal populations grow through normal reproduction rates, habitats are becoming scarce. Continuous repopulation within the confines of a small Caribbean island brings about the existing problem of expanding number of unwanted, stray animals. The TCSPCA continuously puts most of its efforts into responsible pet ownership education and offers an aggressive spay/neuter program to counter the numbers of unwanted animals.
"The TCSPCA has always been optimistic that with support from the business community we can expand our services to meet these increasing demands," says a TCSPCA representative. "So it was an exciting day for us when the Turks and Caicos Sporting Club from Ambergris Cay announced that they wanted to make a US$25,000 donation towards our efforts. This donation represents the first major contribution to the TCSPCA from a development and we hope that their generosity and understanding of the importance of what we do will be followed with like support from others."
