BRIDGEND, Wales, October 26 /PRNewswire/ --
- Energy Saving Week 22 - 28 October 2007
As Energy Saving Week gets underway, homeowners are being urged to take action now to stop their heating bills from going through the roof ... and the walls.
Every homeowner should make Energy Saving Week a time to check to see if their insulation is adequate: With no insulation, about 15% of heating bills go through the roof, and about a third through the walls in the average home, warns Rockwool, the leading manufacturer of stone wool insulation products.
"The payback speaks for itself. Installing loft insulation to the recommended 270mm (10 ins) depth could save GBP110 a year in an average house. It will pay for itself in two years if you do it yourself, or in four years if you have it professionally installed," says Rockwool's Managing Director Hans Schreuder.
"Installing cavity wall insulation could save GBP90 a year, and pay for itself within five years," he adds.
If all homeowners topped up their loft insulation to the recommended 270mm (10 inch) depth, GBP380 million would be saved in fuel bills each year. Installing insulation will save millions of tonnes of carbon emissions. Every home with loft insulation saves an average of 1 tonne of CO2 and a further 750g with cavity wall insulation.

Note to Editor
Rockwool manufacture a range of 4 in 1 insulation solutions, offering superior thermal, fire, acoustic and sustainable performance to meet a number of legislative directives for building performance and use of sustainable materials.
Rockwool plays an important role in reducing global warming and its products save several hundred times more energy than is used in their production. Due to its sustainable nature, Rockwool insulation has been specified for a number of high-profile projects where environmental protection, energy efficiency and sustainability are major priorities.
It's not just Rockwool's products that have a positive impact on the environment, the company as a whole aims to minimise the use of resources and emissions of pollutants. Rockwool recycle significant quantities of off-cuts and production 'waste' back into the manufacturing process, along with carefully selected by-products from other industries. Rockwool insulation is one of the most environmentally friendly and energy efficient construction products available. Its excellent thermal properties cut energy consumption, reducing the need to burn fossil fuels and therefore decreasing harmful emissions of greenhouse gases.
