LONDON, September 20 /PRNewswire/ -- In a wide ranging interview, ex-co chairman of the Scientific Assessment for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Sir John Houghton, lays out a compelling case for global warming whilst simultaneously chiding the UK government for its lack of concerted action.

Sir John, who was also previously chairman of the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution ('92-'98) and chief executive of the Met Office ('83-'91), once famously called man-made global warming a 'weapon of mass destruction'. Now, in an interview with http://www.gocarbonfree.com, Sir John criticises the previous Blair government as "(demonstrating) a big disconnect between was said and what action was taken on climate change" whilst also stating that "the UK is near the bottom of the league in Europe with regards to the action needed to tackle climate change."

Sir John also singles out oil giant Exxon and US coal companies as sponsoring a concerted misinformation campaign that is "the big problem in getting something done about climate change" whilst criticising Lord Lawson and the House of Lords Economic Committee in the UK for "preferring to listen to sceptics whose science is less robust".

In the 3,500 word interview, Sir John talks candidly about solutions to man-made global warming, raising doubts about bio-fuel from corn whilst advocating using the UK's stockpile of military plutonium for use in nuclear power stations. Sir John additionally covers topics as wide-ranging as carbon rationing (which is already enshrined in UK law), Peak Oil, Hurricane Katrina and more obscure topics such as chemtrails and 2012. He also talks about the need to create a sustainable future with the world's nations sharing with each other, not just competing.
