LONDON, December 6 /PRNewswire/ --

Planalytics, Inc., the global leader in Business Weather Intelligence(SM), stated that weather conditions in November had shoppers seeking warm-handle products in its WeatherCall(SM) Report released today. This was welcomed news to retailers fearing the negative impact of a "credit squeeze" as the temperature driven advantage for the sale of cold weather merchandise that began earlier this Autumn continued through much of the month.

"Financial concerns may have had a dampening effect but, for most chains, the weather is not to blame," commented Scott Bernhardt, Chief Operating Officer for Planalytics. "In fact, mild temperatures last November meant weather was a favourable factor in like-for-like comparisons for most retailers, rather than a reason for poor performance."

Planalytics WeatherCall Report showed positive year-on-year weather driven demand indices for the following product categories: Fleece (+68%), Portable Heaters (+17%), Hot Cereals (+4%) and Cough Cold Remedies (+4%).

Overall, November started out on a mild tone before temperatures began to fall away through the middle of the month. The week ending 17 November was particularly conducive to the sale of warming products as it was the coldest week of the Autumn season so far. Compared to the same week last year it was significantly colder across Wales and England with London showing a drop of five degrees for the period. The cooler than normal trend continued through the following week before temperatures eased back to seasonable for the final week of the month.
