Fermi has done a heck of a job doing good stuff when it counts, especially as the LHC became the kind of thing everyone feared it would.   The SSC fiasco is still foremost in the minds of a lot of people so there is zero chance of the ILC here but a muon collider without a lot of hype may be just the ticket.

Here is a link to the SSC fiasco.  I'd never even heard of it, but Wikipedia again comes to the rescue.

And one to the ILC, to boot!
