David Houle, media executive responsible for branding MTV, VH1 and CNN Headline News, has joined Science 2.0 start-up ScientificBlogging.com as a strategic advisor to handle marketing and corporate communications.
ScientificBlogging.com has announced that media veteran David Houle has joined the company as a Strategic Advisor. He'll be responsible for guiding the company in its agreements with various mainstream news outlets and the company's marketing efforts.
"We couldn't be more thrilled to have an industry leader who helped establish major brands like MTV, VH1 and CNN Headline News during their formative years," said CEO Hank Campbell. "Since we went into private beta in early February we've had a terrific response and hundreds of thousands of people have read our articles. As we move into a public beta, David's help will be invaluable in insuring that we make the right decisions about who we team up with while keeping the vision and culture that has made us successful so far."
"When I saw a news release about the private beta, I was very intrigued and signed up" said Houle. "I pride myself on having a good eye for interesting concepts and this kind of Science 2.0 site, where featured scientists write original articles and science students and professors host their blogs and get paid to write about science, struck me as a real winner.
"The explosive growth of Web 2.0 and blogging has created a lot of content but ScientificBlogging.com has carved out a place for high-level and intellectually stimulating discourse. The community has gone from opening its doors to over 150,000 readers per month in just its third month of private beta. I am excited to help that grow as it goes into its next stages of development."
ScientificBlogging.com is a new, open science community that hosts columns written by world-class scientists, science writers, science journalists, students and professors in physical sciences, earth sciences, biology, medicine, neuroscience and culture.
Later this month, ScientificBlogging.com will open up a public beta period. Science writers are encouraged to visit the home page and create an account.
