chewing has been widely shown to lead to migraines, so best only in moderation.
also, claims that it improves memory/thinking/etc are dubious at best, and unlikely to have any lasting effects -- sex, exercise, and walking a dog are time prooven better destressers. also, whilst it's well-accepted that some types of gum inhibit dental decay, it should be remembered that these products are not without their negative side-effects.
