Something has to account for the notion that religion has always existed - it may even be that there is an organic foundation to belief in religion, like a genetic switch in the human brain. Yesterday I was forwarded <A href="http://www.nytimes.com/2007/03/04/magazine/04evolution.t.html?_r=2&ref=science&oref=slogin&oref=slogin">this overview</a> from the New York Times, which is quite good. It's also quite long but worth it if you take it in manageable,non-eye-strain sized blocks.
